Maresme is a region in Catalonia that is located between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. It has 30 towns, of which 16 are on the Maresme-Barcelona coast. The area is protected from the north winds by the coastal mountain range and the Montnegre corridor, providing this area with an excellent microclimate in which one can enjoy the natural parks and beaches all-year-round.

Maresme is considered as one of the best places in Spain in which to live; all year round you have the opportunity to enjoy the top-quality gastronomy, exquisite beaches, marinas, cultural and leisure activities, natural landscapes and wildlife, and the sporting options. It is also home to many exclusive, peaceful neighbourhoods that are located so close to downtown Barcelona, providing a high level of convenience.

Firstly, Maresme is a fantastic location due to its splendid Mediterranean climate that can be enjoyed practically 365 days of the year.

The Maresme-Barcelona coastline has 52km of sandy, golden beaches; many of them awarded a blue flag, many adapted for those with disabilities and elderly, and with all the facilities to practice all manner of aquatic sports.

On the other hand, there are five famous marinas in the region: El Masnou, Balis in San Andreu de Llavaneras, Arenys de Mar, Mataró, and Premiá de Mar. All of them together have more than 5000 moorings and offer a wide range of facilities such as repair services, buying and selling of boats, sports clubs, sailing schools, cruises, underwater fishing, etc. Additionally, there are also many restaurants, cafes, swimming pools, shops, and a helipad in Llavaneras.

One can also enjoy a plethora of recreational activities in the water parks of Marineland in Palafolls and at the fantastic island in Vilassar de Dalt. In the mountains there is the chance of taking part in cycling tours of Argentona, segway rides in Mataró, trying out bikes, quadbikes and buggies in Malgrat de Mar, simulated combat and family-style adventures in the forests of Santa Susana, climbing and donkey-rides in Arenys de Munt, the adventure park in Dosrius, and paintball and human foosball in Pineda de Mar.

If all this was not enough, then Maresme is considered one of the best areas for its gastronomy and fine-dining events. Firstly, many recognise Maresme as the pantry of Catalonia due to its home-grown produce such as peas from Llavaneras, Caldes de Estrac and Mataró, strawberries from Sant Pol, Arenys and Canet de Mar, cherries from Arenys de Munt, beans and Montserrat tomatoes from Malgrat de Mar, and autumn mushrooms from the Sierra del Litoral. With regards to seafood it is squid, prawns, langoustines and clams from Arenys de Mar, and to wash all of these down there are the best D.O certified wines from Alella that is famous for its white wines.

Maresme also has some of the best bars and restaurants, although one that stands out is the Sant Pau de Carme Ruscadella which has been awarded three Michellin stars for its traditional, Mediterranean and Catalonian cuisine.

There are many top-quality sports facilities in Maresme, including the best golfing ranges, tennis and padel tennis courts, and equestrian centres in the towns of Llavaneras, Caldas de Estrac, Supermaresme, and Sant Vicenç de Montalt. The golf course in Llavaneras is one of the oldest in Catalonia and has an 18-hole range overlooking the seaside. Moreover, the Mora Tennis Club has a Pitch&Putt course with 9-holes, a golf school, and tennis, padel tennis and squash courts.

On the other hand, the Equestrian Centre in Llavaneras is considered one of the best in Catalonia and has a riding school, and 12 hectares of land which include 100 individual blocks and all types of terrains on which to exercise the horses.

Lastly, all of these charming and exquisite towns in Maresme are proximate to Barcelona and Girona Costa Brava. Thanks to the many modes of public transport and infrastructure (highways, buses, trains), one can be in downtown Barcelona in just a few minutes, and this includes the international airports of El Prat and Girona Costa Brava that have as destinations all manner of cities and countries across the globe.
